In this episode of the SEO Podcast by #SEOSLY, host Olga Zarr sits down with special guest Areej AbuAli, founder of Women in Tech SEO and owner of SEO consultancy Crawlina.
Based in the UK, I’m the Founder of Crawlina, an SEO Consultancy, where I focus on all things technical and on-site SEO. Prior to that, I worked client-side and agency-side across the property, health, fashion, retail and travel industry. The bigger and messier a site is, the happier I am!

About Areej AbuAli
- Originally from Egypt, studied computer engineering and moved to the UK 10 years ago
- First SEO job was at a small agency needed an Arabic speaker for a client project
- Learned on the job working hands-on with clients in various niches
- Progressed to Head of SEO at the agency after 5 years
- Has since worked in-house for a property portal and large ecommerce site
- Recently started her own consultancy called Corolina
- Passionate about site crawlability, indexation control, working with aggregators/ecommerce
Women in Tech SEO
- Founded community 4 years ago when feeling disconnected from the industry
- Wanted to create a welcoming network for women in technical SEO of all levels
- Now has over 5,000 members and numerous initiatives like newsletter, mentorship program, workshops, podcast and annual conferences
- Membership completely free; gets sponsor support to fund paid events/training
- Festival happening on March 3rd in London with 10 speakers and 400 attendees
- Planning first US conference in September 2023
Recommendations for First-Time SEO Conference Speakers
- Start by outlining talk structure and details before creating slides
- Share specifics in conference pitch – topic scope, session flow – rather than general ideas
- Be kind to yourself and spread workload out over time
- Use it as incentive to research and learn deeply on chosen subject
