📰 SEO NEWS 

Google Updates Search Quality Raters Guidelines On October 19th

After over a year, Google finally publishes an update to its Google Search Quality Raters Guidelines. The changes include, among others, the update of the section discussing the Lowest Page Quality.

Possible Google Algorithm Update October 15th – October 18th

As Barry Schwartz reports, there was probably another unconfirmed Google algorithm update that took place between October 15h and October 18th. There was a lot of chatter in the SEO community and SEO tracking tools were showing a lot of SERP fluctuations.

Google Analytics Bug (GA)

Google Analytics had a bug that resulted in about an hour of lost data on October 18th. That data is unrecoverable and you should note, maybe with an annotation, that there was a glitch resulting in less data being collected by Google Analytics.

☝️ SEO TIPS OF THE WEEK 

And here are the SEO tips for you.

#1: The author of an article is not a ranking factor 
John Mueller answers the question during Google SEO office hours explaining that the author of an article and his authority are not a ranking factor. 
#2: There is no SEO benefit for opening links in the same or a new window
John Mueller answers a Twitter question on whether it makes a difference for SEO if links open in the same vs a new window. John says there is no difference. 
#3: Google does not treat buttons as links
This is another Twitter question asked for John who clearly states that buttons aren’t links and so they don’t inherently have URLs attached to actions, so Google does not use them for crawling, etc.
